After reading various assertions that the Evap monitor on a typical car needs 45-55 mph cruising to clear, I purposely drove on a 50 mph expressway. Seems to have worked.

After over 100 miles of driving just for the sake of clearing readiness monitors, the F355 finally passed smog...

Kinja'd!!!

Addendum: HC readings were marginal, but CO and NOx passed with flying colours.

Another F355 on the road is always a good thing!

Definitely. Just last week I saw another F355 on the road, a yellow GTS. It took 2 years of ownership to finally encounter another one in the wild (arranged events don’t count).

What was keeping it from passing? CELs?

Yes and No. I went through the whole reset the ECU values saga, but It was the issue that some stuff that made it borderline illegal(tune for one thing). I also had problems since I had tried to add an aftermarket Cat in the 3in aftermarket exhaust I had, and even though it would pass tailpipe with no problems, the cat has to be oem spec. Most smog shops wouldn’t even touch it(since it looked modified or illegal). Ended up getting lucky and finding a small shell station in the city with some car enthusiasts working there who didnt care about the visual inspection stuff..I never asked them for a hookup, the guy just ran it through the system and it passed the tailpipe emissions fine.

Yeah, I have enough trouble with my car in its stock form. I can imagine the trouble you had with yours. If you’re in CA, lots of smog testers don’t want the liability of having to discern what is CARB-accepted and what isn’t, so they simply don’t deal with cars that appear modded in any way.
